The year 1994 saw Canadians, Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler take the Gold Medal for Pairs Skating at the Olympic Games. The pair would, naturally, appear on the cover of that year's program book and Kathryn Rutherford was asked to create the cover portrait fine art painting of the now famous couple.
Given only the small black and white photo taken during a practice rehearsal, Kathryn was asked to paint something in colour that would portray a mystical, frosty illusion of the 1994 theme.......Dreams on Ice.
The honor to paint such a famous Canadian couple, for such a charitable cause, was made more spectacular by the fact that Kathryn was born and raised in Canada, but, was to leave her native country in 1996, to relocate to the United States. She would be leaving a small piece of her heart and talent behind to Canadian History.
The original 11"x14" oil painting was in the possession of the agency who organized the annual event, however, it is well known that Isabelle was highly anamoured by the work of art and the agency asked Kathryn for permission to present the painting to Isabelle. There is no information as to whether or not that gift was ever made.
