Kathryn Rutherford, owner of the Heirloom Art Studio, is a highly trained, award-winning fine artist
who excels in the creation of original oil, watercolour and digital paintings and portraits.
Handcolouring techniques include both historic handcolouring where transparent oil paint is applied to
silver halide fibre base photographs in the style of photography from the 1960's and 1970's
as well as a digital application of colour applied to a digitally reproduced photograph. Colouring may range
from a light tinting of only selected areas to a full application of colour throughout the entire surface of a print.
In all cases, colouring is an artistic, hand application of transparent paint whether it is applied with
traditional oil paint or digital colour. It is not a digital filter or special effect filter application which drops flat
colour onto large areas. Each portion of a photograph is treated by hand with a mid-tone colour, highlights
and shadows then blended and matched to give the completed photograph a high quality look.
PLEASE NOTE:
Prices on the Transparent Hand Colouring Fees are for a full handcolouring of an entire photograph
Area tints and toning are priced by time and require a specific quote to determine those costs.
