Kathryn and Greg Rutherford have over thirty years in the fine art, photography, screenprinting, dye sublimation, reproduction, giclee, and digital printing industries.
Greg is a professional commercial screenprinter and Kathryn is a master at colour separations and colour matching as well as an expert on computer, digital and printer system management. The Rutherford's produce only the highest quality prints, archival reproductions and printed merchandise.

GICLEE PRINTING

The term "giclee" is a French word which literally translates as a "squirt or spray". It is generally used to describe all methods of digital printing that utilize true archival materials to make a single image or edition of prints expected to last 100 years.

Giclee printing produces the highest quality fine art and photographic reproductions at affordable prices. Unlike offset printing, where an entire edition has to be produced and paid for all at once, giclee printing allows single prints or small runs of an edition to be created, thus, easing the budget.

Heirloom Art Studio uses ONLY the finest photographic and fine art papers, canvas, textiles, flag and banner materials, printers and inks to ensure the quality and longevity of all images we produce. Owner, Kathryn Rutherford, is an expert on colour matching and digital management and strives for EXACT duplication of any artist's or photographer's work.

Photographs and fine art may be reproduced as giclee prints on greeting cards, canvas, photographic or fine art papers.

Dye Sublimation is a specialty print process where a digital print is produced as a transfer using a specialty dye. When that transfer is applied to specially coated or polyester products at 400 degrees the dye turns to gas and permeates into the product.

Dye Sublimation reproduces in full, brilliant, photographic colour and is PERMANENT. Unlike most laser or inkjet transfers, the colours are bold, are dishwasher safe and won't fade with washing.

Personal photographs, original fine art, even children's handprints or drawings can be dye sublimated onto a long list of products. This is an individual and creative way to promote your business or sell your artwork and photography in other ways than print. Gift giving takes on a whole new meaning when it is home decor, wall or floor murals, commemorative or memorial treasures that are personal and meaningful. Why buy off the shelf products when you can design your own specialty merchandise and gifts.

CUSTOM SCREENPRINTING

Custom Screenprinting encompasses many types of techniques and methods, an unlimited number of products to print on (substrates), projects to imagine and artwork to design.

Fine art prints, or serigraphs, require hand printing (above left photo) each print one at a time and printing only one colour of the art design at a time. Each finished print, no matter how many colours are printed, is an original work or fine art and NOT a duplicate reproduction of an original.

Most textile and commercial printing requires a press whether it is run automatically or set up manually (above right photo).

All custom screenprinting is invoiced through our partner company, Mystic Ink, owned and operated by Greg Rutherford. Mystic Ink does six colour textile work and accepts contract printing from individuals and businesses who seek quality, custom, commercial screenprinting.

Greg and Kathryn Rutherford also offer screenprinting instruction in fine art serigraphy, consultation, troubleshooting, equipment purchase and shop set up.
